Adam Martyniuk: Ukraine supports Active European Integration

 

Adam Martyniuk, First Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Giorgi Baramidze, Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, State Minister for Euro-Atlantic Integration.

 

"Today we have a great integration day in the Parliament of Ukraine. Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Jan Fisher. I am meeting you. Let us hope that it will be useful for the integration processes of our state," Adam Martyniuk stated in the beginning of the meeting.

 

The First Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude for the policy of Ukraine and Georgia in the inter-parliamentary liaison and international organizations.           

 

Dwelling upon the political-economic situation in Ukraine, A. Martyniuk mentioned the difficulties with adoption of the Tax Code.

 

A. Martyniuk mentioned another sensitive issue, namely, the pension reform. He stated that its implementation is due to the shortfall in the state budget, which was expected to total UAH 20 billion in the year 2011.    

 

 A. Martyniuk informed about the current affairs in the higher education.  Dwelling upon the political situation in Ukraine, A. Martyniuk stressed, "It is for the first time in the 20-year period of independence that the President has a unique possibility to cooperate with the Parliament, as the parliamentary majority supports the President."    

 

The participants of the meeting discussed Ukrainian-Georgian relations in the context of European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine. A. Martyniuk informed about the Law "On the Fundamentals of the Domestic and Foreign Policy of Ukraine."

 

He stressed that accession of Ukraine to any influential international organization should be preceded with an open and direct public dialogue.

 

Dwelling upon the inter-parliamentary aspect of Ukrainian-Georgian cooperation, the Parties declared mutual interest in cooperation between the law-makers.  

 

On behalf of the leaders of the Georgian Parliament, Giorgi Baramidze invited A. Martyniuk to make a visit to Georgia.
